Disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner will plead guilty in federal court Friday morning to transferring obscene material to a minor, the New York Times reported.
The New York Democrat has been caught in a series of sexting scandals, including one that led to his resignation from Congress in 2011.
The former congressman was under investigation by federal law enforcement after the Daily Mail reported the Democrat had exchanged sexually explicit messages with a 15-year-old girl in North Carolina.
The FBI seized Weiner’s laptop during the investigation, and found emails he and his wife, Huma Abedin, had exchanged. After seizing the laptop, former FBI Director James Comey announced in October that the bureau was conducting a new investigation into Hillary Clinton’s email use during her time as secretary of state.
Many Democrats blame that event for Clinton’s loss to Donald Trump, and Clinton herself has said she would have won if not for Comey’s announcement.
