Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb., voiced his concern on Sunday over President Trump’s attack on the First Amendment, saying the president is attempting to “weaponize distrust.”
Sasse told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union” the First Amendment is what unifies the nation and the five freedoms it encompasses cannot be separated.
“We differ about really big and important things in this country and then we come together around the First Amendment,” Sasse told Tapper.

“There is an important distinction to draw between bad stories or crappy coverage and the right that citizens have to argue about that and complain — and trying to weaponize distrust,” Sasse said.
