Conway’s husband: Trump ‘has no comprehension of the words he’s using’

George Conway, a lawyer and the husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, chastised President Trump on Thursday for claiming that illegal immigrants “are not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States,” calling the president’s claim “drivel.”

“Were that true, then the government wouldn’t be able to arrest them. Surely that’s not the President’s position. Clearly he has no comprehension of the words he’s using,” George Conway wrote on Twitter.

Trump made the claim during a campaign rally in Florida as he touted his desire to end birthright citizenship, a right currently protected by the 14th Amendment.

George Conway, who uses his Twitter account largely to criticize his wife’s boss, penned a scathing op-ed for The Washington Post after Trump first announced his proposal to do away with birthright citizenship via executive order.

“Such a move would be unconstitutional and would certainly be challenged. And the challengers would undoubtedly win,” Conway wrote in the Post with attorney Neal Katyal.

“He is threatening, with the stroke of a pen, to declare certain people who are born in the United States ineligible for citizenship — despite the plain words of the 14th Amendment,” they added.
