Earth Day is about protecting the nation’s natural resources, but doing so with sensible regulations that don’t harm the economy.

That was Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt’s Earth Day message delivered Friday evening in Texas.

“On Earth Day, we celebrate the great natural resources that the United States is blessed with,” Pruitt said at Earth Day Texas in Dallas.

“The Environmental Protection Agency was created by Congress to protect these resources, along with human health,” he added. “We intend to do just that – protect the environment through sensible regulations that allow for economic growth.”

Saturday is Earth Day, the near 50-year-old trademark of the environmental movement, which Pruitt was in Texas to mark.

Pruitt also used the occasion to meet with wildlife conservation groups the Audubon Society and The Nature Conservancy.
