Eight Afghanistan civilians are dead and 31 people are injured, including three American soldiers, following an explosion of an explosive device near the American embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Navy Capt. Bill Salvin, spokesman for Operation Resolute Support, said Wednesday the injuries to the American soldiers are not believed to be life-threatening.

“The attack happened around 8 a.m. inside the green zone near the US Embassy. An MRAP convoy of US soldiers (operating in a NATO mission) was the target,” Salvin said in a statement. “The attack was an IED on the side of the road. When the convoy rolled past, the IED detonated.”
