Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, expected to be the lone Republican “no” vote on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, said Friday she plans to vote “present” in his final confirmation vote as a courtesy to Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont.

Doing so will allow Republicans to preserve what is expected to be a two-vote margin to confirm Kavanaugh.

“This will not change the outcome,” said Murkowski.

Daines, a longtime Kavanaugh supporter, announced Thursday that he could end up missing the vote the Senate will have this weekend for his daughter’s Saturday wedding in Montana. He said he would be headed back after the wedding for the vote, which he at the time said could be held open until late Saturday or early morning Sunday for his return to Washington.

Fellow Montana Republican Rep. Greg Gianforte offered him the use of Gianforte’s private plane to fly back for the vote, Daines announced Friday.
