Prominent Trump Supporter David Duke Plans Congressional Run

Donald Trump has brought out the absolute worst in the electorate, and many of them have made race a major part of the reason they support Trump. His silence has been interpreted as acceptance of their support, and he has outright refused to disavow many of those groups whose despicable beliefs have belong nowhere near the mainstream. One of these very supporters, a rather prominent one, has decided to run for Congress in Louisiana.

Yes, my friends, it’s time to welcome David Duke back into politics.

….

“There are millions of people across the country who would like to have me in the Congress. I’d be the only person in Congress openly defending the rights and the heritage of European Americans,” he said. “We are on the offensive today. There’s no more defenses.”

His target, Steve Scalise, is the No. 3 Republican in the House of Representatives, and spoke out fervently against Duke and his groups after inadvertently speaking at an event hosted by one of those very groups (Scalise claims he didn’t know who the group was, and people who were there claim Scalise wasn’t actually there, so it’s all kind of fuzzy). Duke is, apparently, super upset that Scalise trashed his group and their beliefs.

But, let’s not pretend this is all about Scalise. Duke, and other white supremacists, are empowered by the fact that Donald Trump has all but endorsed them with his lack of disavowal. Let’s remember this gem from months ago in which he refused to denounce Duke and the KKK.
