A student at Great Mills High School in St. Mary’s County, Md., shot and injured two other students inside the school Tuesday morning before a school resource officer responding to the incident is believed to have shot and wounded the attacker, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff Tim Cameron announced Tuesday.

Cameron said one boy and one girl were hurt as a result of the initial shooting, which took place shortly before 8 a.m. local time.

The unnamed shooter then fired at the school cop, but was shot before he was able to continue shooting others, NBC reported.

The three students, including the gunman, are in critical condition. The school resource officer was not injured.
