Attorney General William Barr is not expected to return to Capitol Hill on Thursday for a second day of testimony, a source familiar with the matter confirmed to The Hill.

The House Judiciary Committee is still expected to hold a hearing Thursday, according to reports, even without an appearance from their star witness.

Barr’s appearance was called into question throughout the week, as the Justice Department objected to Democrats’ plans to allow committee counsels to question Barr on his handling of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report.

The attorney general has been at odds with the Democratic-led panel over the terms of the House hearing, with the attorney general saying he only wants to answer questions from lawmakers themselves.

On Wednesday, the Judiciary panel voted along party lines to approve a measure allowing members of committee staff to question Barr for an additional hour, despite fierce objections from Republicans.
