Steve Deace: Here's how to beat Hillary. Here's how not to.

After laying out she had multiple classified emails illegally on her private server, calling her own behavior and her department’s “extremely careless,” and saying as Secretary of State she he was using email servers less secure than a Gmail account, the director of the FBI has decided against prosecuting Hillary Clinton.

In short, Director Comey told us today that “Hillary Clinton is too big to fail.”

This is not my shocked face.

We’ve caught the Clintons lying on camera, lying under oath to federal grand juries, and from the White House itself. We’ve caught them doing shady land deals, taking in illegal foreign campaign contributions, and turning the word “humidor” into a verb with an intern in the Oval Office.

Yet they get away with it — every time. Worse yet, they win in spite of it — every time.

The idea that a majority of Americans aren’t going to vote for her because they don’t trust her is a lie we tell ourselves. Because, you know, there’s no precedent for a majority of Americans voting for a Clinton they don’t trust or anything.

We couldn’t beat the Clintons on scandals and name calling in the 1990s, and we won’t beat them on scandals and name calling now. They must be beaten ON THE ISSUES. When elections are about personalities, Democrats almost always win. And when they’re about issues, Republicans almost always win.

“Crooked Hillary” isn’t going to win any more than “Draft Dodger” or “Adulterer Bubba” did back in the day. You must beat her on the issues. Republican base voters, who aren’t exactly inspired now, are inspired on the issues. You have to get the general population to vote FOR you on the issues. You have to make Hillary Clinton talk actual issues. You have to make her defend the indefensible.

Like Obama’s foreign policy. Like Obamacare. Like prosecuting Catholic Nuns who don’t want to pay for abortions. Like more people on food stamps than the total population of Spain.

Besides, these people are better at this game than Trump. While Trump manipulates tabloid media and C-list celebrities on reality shows, the Clintons manipulate world powers. Including this one. After all, remember it was Trump writing checks to the Clintons. Not the other way around.

Trump must be capable of crafting a winning, substantive message ON THE ISSUES. If he cannot, then the delegates should replace him with a candidate who can in Cleveland. Otherwise the Clintons will be corrupting the White House for another four years.

This election won’t be decided November 8. It will be decided by the end of this month.
