Curt Schilling was fired by ESPN on Wednesday, for expressing an opinion online earlier in the week which just happens to be the view held by the vast majority of the American people. Earlier this week, Schilling posted a picture of a transgender person, and made a comment regarding the effort to let transgender men use women’s restrooms.
“A man is a man no matter what they call themselves. I don’t care what they are, who they sleep with, men’s room was designed for the penis, women’s not so much. Now you need laws telling us differently? Pathetic.”
Now, there is nothing biologically, or factually incorrect about that statement. Or anything even remotely controversial about it.
Yet, in a statement on Wednesday evening, ESPN said:
“ESPN is an inclusive company. Curt Schilling has been advised that his conduct was unacceptable and his employment with ESPN has been terminated.”
So, “inclusiveness” apparently doesn’t extend to people who hold views opposite from those of the PC overseers in Bristol, Connecticut. ESPN was starting to come under heavy fire from other members of the free speech loving liberal sports media. Many of whom wanted Schilling fired.
Just Wednesday afternoon, sportswriter Christine Brennan basically demanded ESPN terminate Schilling for his comments about transgenders, saying that the network “must act” after Schilling’s comments.
