President Trump has warned British Prime Minister Theresa May he won’t make a state visit until she can guarantee him better coverage in the press, according to a new report.
A transcript of the conversation seen by senior diplomats showed Trump telling May that he wouldn’t come until he gets “better reception,” The Sun reported.
“I haven’t gotten great coverage there lately, Theresa,” Trump told May.
“Well, you know what the British press are like,” May responded.
“I still want to come, but I’m in no rush,” Trump said. “So if you can fix it for me, it would make things a lot easier. When I know I’m going to get better reception, I’ll come and not before.”
A source told the oft-sensationalist tabloid that May explained to Trump she had no power over what the press writes.
May extended an invitation for Trump to visit Britain during her trip to the White House in January.
