A U.S. fighter jet shot down an Iranian drone in southeastern Syria on Tuesday, according to a statement from the military.

The drone was shot down by a U.S. F-15E Strike Eagle near Al-Tanf, Syria, where the U.S. is training local fighters to combat the Islamic State, and where the U.S. has already fired on pro-Assad regime military this month and in May. The military believed the armed drone was a threat to U.S. forces.

Operation Inherent Resolve, the U.S.-led coalition combating Islamic State, said the drone was a pro-regime Shaheed-120. The F-15E intercepted the armed drone after it was seen flying near coalition forces. The drone was shot down when it did not change course, the statement said.

“The demonstrated hostile intent and actions of pro-regime forces toward coalition and partner forces in Syria conducting legitimate counter-ISIS operations will not be tolerated,” the statement said.
