Conservative author Ann Coulter argued Tuesday that President Trump’s surprise firing of FBI Director James Comey is an attempt to distract the public from his inability to get funding for the border wall.
“Comey firing is a red herring to distract from the fact that Trump hasn’t started building the wall,” Coulter tweeted Tuesday evening, an hour after the White House announced the termination.

Congress funded the federal government through September last week, but did not include the estimated $20 billion necessary to build a secure wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
Coulter also joked that firing Comey was “very risky of Trump” since he did not first get permission from a federal judge in Hawaii, a knock at a lawsuit over Trump’s revised travel ban.
