Late Sunday, a police officer was ambushed by an armed assailant who pulled alongside the officer’s vehicle. This time, the shooting occurred in St. Louis, where the unsuspecting officer was shot twice in the head as he sat in his patrol car.

“This officer was driving down the road and was ambushed by an individual who pointed a gun at him from inside of his car and shot out the police officer’s window,” said St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson.

St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay didn’t mince any words when he highlighted the suspect’s motives.

“He was targeted because he was a police officer,” Slay said at a press conference. “He didn’t stop anybody. He didn’t point a gun at anybody.”

“All of us as a community have to do what we can to help find [the shooter],” added the mayor.

“The 46-year-old sergeant, who Dotson said has 20 years of service, was shot two times in the head and sustained injuries to the face. He was in critical but stable condition and was talking, and was expected to survive the police chief said,” reports ABC News.

The officer is married and the father of three children.
