At least 8 people were killed and several others injured late Thursday in a mass shooting at an Indianapolis FedEx facility.

Indianapolis police said that the shooter took his own life and there is “no active threat to the community at this time,” according to the Associated Press.

In a press conference, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Genae Cook early Friday said at least four people have been transported to a local hospital with injuries, one person was in critical condition. Three others had other injuries, and two others were treated at the facility.

Cook also said that authorities were also aware that that “multiple other people” had walked into local hospitals for injuries. The Department is continuing to reach out to identify other victims.

Cook said that officers responded to a report of officers fired at the FedEx facility at roughly 11 p.m. Thursday evening, and arrived to an active shooter incident.

Authorities are still trying to figure out the motive of the incident. Cook said the investigation will continue “throughout the day.”

Deputy Police Chief Craig McCartt told CNN that the gunman is believed to have gone to the parking lot, exit his car, and “quickly began shooting.”

“The first shooting occurred in the parking lot, and then he went inside and did not get very far,” he said.

FedEx said in a statement on Friday that it was “deeply shocked and saddened by the loss of our team members following the tragic shooting at our FedEx Ground facility in Indianapolis.”
