Ben Carson is the reason vanity candidacies must end

Yesterday Ben Carson and one of his top aides confirmed his critics’ worst suspicions about him.

Throughout the GOP presidential primary, many suspected the former pediatric neurosurgeon only ran for president to boost his personal business prospects, such as book sales and speaking fees. On the evening of the Iowa primary he even abandoned his own victory party to return to Florida to, according to his campaign, “get a fresh set of clothes.”

After his campaign ended, Carson became a prominent surrogate for President-elect Trump. Naturally, he was in contention for a job in the administration. But, he’s publicly declining. One of his closest aides told the press, “Dr. Carson feels he has no government experience, he’s never run a federal agency. The last thing he would want to do is take a position that would cripple the presidency.” Carson himself said he wants the “freedom to work on many issues and not be pigeonholed into one particular area.”

Let me translate: If all this is true, Carson is a fraud who should have never ran for president. If he doesn’t have the experience to serve a president, he should have never accepted a single donation from a single supporter to be president.

Carson is the reason why vanity candidacies must end.
