Virgin Galactic company founder Richard Branson successfully landed on earth just after 12 p.m. EST Sunday, becoming the first billionaire to launch into space.

Branson made the trip, which lasted about 90 minutes, in a spaceplane created by his company that launched on Sunday morning after a 90-minute delay.

The spaceplane, SpaceShipTwo Unity, carried the British billionaire, two pilots and three other mission specialists into space where they reached the 50-mile altitude that is recognized as the edge of space by the Federal Aviation Administration, according to The Washington Post.

All I heard about this morning was “why is he going into space? All that money wasted. He could have spent that money feeding the poor.” Or something similar. Whole lot of class envy.

It’s Branson’s money. He worked for it. He earned it. He has the right to spend his money any way he wants. And for all I know he might just be using his money for charitable work. Besides, every time someone goes up into space, we learn something and often that learning leads to something that benefits all of us. Maybe Branson’s contribution to knowledge is low to none with this flight, but who knows?

And all of the above applies to Jeff Bezos and any other wealthy person who wants to go into space. People, stop whining and let them do what they want.

Thanks Consistent. And it’s not just things like phones. We have life saving treatments and medicines that came from discoveries linked to space travel.
