CNN reported Tuesday that the two countries will issue a joint statement in the next 24 to 48 hours, but that the agreement is not yet finalized.

OTTAWA — Canada and the U.S. are working together on an agreement to suspend non-essential travel between the two countries while sparing trade, President Donald Trump said on Twitter on Wednesday. A Canadian government official had confirmed the plan to POLITICO late Tuesday night, part of an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus.

“We will be, by mutual consent, temporarily closing our Northern Border with Canada to non-essential traffic. Trade will not be affected. Details to follow!” Trump tweeted.

The move will mostly close the largest non-militarized land border in the world, another restriction as coronavirus spreads around the globe and cases multiply in both the U.S. and Canada.

CNN first reported late Tuesday that the two countries will issue a joint statement in the next 24 to 48 hours, but that the agreement is not yet finalized, as officials are working out what kinds of cross-border travel will still be allowed. The network reported that business and trade will continue between the two countries.

My brother is on vacation in Vancouver BC, supposedly till March 21. Maybe he should get out of there now before the border closes.
