The spouses of members of Congress have come together with some acts of kindness to help House Majority Whip Steve Scalise’s family while he remains in the hospital after last week’s shooting at the Republicans’ congressional baseball practice.

A source with knowledge of the plans told the Washington Examiner that North Carolina Republican Rep. Patrick McHenry’s wife, Giulia, coordinated and arranged for fellow spouses to provide daily lunches and dinners for Scalise’s family.

McHenry, R-N.C., is also hosting a blood drive on Capitol Hill for his colleague and other victims of the shooting, according to Politico.

Scalise, R-La., remains hospitalized in intensive care after he was shot through the hip Wednesday during an attack on congressional Republicans, who were practicing for the annual congressional charity baseball game.

The Louisiana congressman’s family said in a statement Saturday that Scalise is in serious condition and continues to improve.
