The ruling sets the stage for another potential Supreme Court showdown over the powers of Congress.
President Donald Trump on Wednesday suffered another legal loss in his attempts to keep House Democrats away from his financial records, setting the stage for another potential Supreme Court showdown over the powers of Congress.
The defeat came via the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit, which in a pair of rulings rejected Trump’s bid for a rehearing of his lawsuit trying to block Democrats from subpoenaing one of his accounting firms.
Both the original three-judge panel that last month denied Trump’s case and a majority of the full D.C. Circuit sided against the president as he seeks to stop Congress from obtaining a vast trove of materials that could be used in investigations of conflicts of interest and payments from foreign governments.
