COVID-19 detecting dogs are patrolling Miami airport, a world first for an airport
“It’s the first airport anywhere that’s utilizing this type of technology in our four-legged friends,” the Miami-Dade Commission chairman said.
The Miami International Airport has begun utilizing COVID-19-detecting dogs, making it the first airport in the world to do so.
“We’re blessed in Miami-Dade County to have the first COVID-sniffing dogs — actually, we have a couple of them,” Miami-Dade Commission Chairman Jose “Pepe” Diaz told CBS News, “and it’s the first airport anywhere that’s utilizing this type of technology in our four-legged friends.”
These dogs have been specially trained to detect COVID-19 in infected travelers and alert their handlers. The handlers said that the dogs are correct 97 percent of the time.
