ESPN terminated Curt Schilling from the company for making an “obvious point” that grown male adult strangers should not be allowed to use the same bathroom as little girls, Ted Cruz said Thursday.

“ESPN fired Curt Schilling for making the rather obvious point that we shouldn’t allow grown male adult strangers alone in a bathroom with little girls,” the Texas senator said in a 14-minute interview on the radio show of surrogate Glenn Beck, in which he discussed North Carolina’s recent ban on transgender people from using facilities other than the ones corresponding to their gender at birth. “That’s a point anyone who is rational should understand.”

The comment was in reference to the network’s decision Wednesday to terminate the contract of the former All-Star pitcher and on-air personality after he shared a meme on social media ostensibly denigrating people who criticize opposition to the North Carolina law.
