EASLEY, S.C. — Ted Cruz rarely misses an opportunity to tear into Republican rival Donald Trump. But on Thursday, he declined to weigh in on Pope Francis’ comment that Trump was not a Christian.
“Listen, that’s between Donald and the Pope,” he told reporters, stopping only briefly before walking into an event at a barbecue joint here. “I’m not going to get in the middle of that. I’ll leave it to the two of them to work it out.”
