In D.C., teachers and staff will report on Monday to plan for remote learning, and the schools then will be on spring break from March 17 to March 23.

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser announced today that District of Columbia public schools will close beginning Monday through March 31 for a combination of an early spring break and remote learning as officials in the nation’s capital battle the coronavirus outbreak.

Bowser said, however, that school meals will continue to be provided to students on weekdays throughout the period, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at selected sites that will be posted at coronavirus.dc.gov.

Her action came as K-12 schools also were ordered closed by governors in a handful of other states including Maryland, Michigan and Ohio, and in multiple districts in Washington state hard hit by the coronavirus. Kentucky’s governor recommended that schools close but did not issue a mandate.
