Doug Jones beats Roy Moore in Alabama special election after brutal campaign

In a stunning upset, Democratic candidate Doug Jones beat Republican Roy Moore Tuesday after an ugly special election for Alabama’s Senate seat that turned on women accusing the GOP nominee of preying on them when they were as young as 14.

The result is a setback for President Trump, who strongly endorsed Moore just ahead of the election after other Republican tried to distance themselves over the accusations of sexual impropriety.

Jones pulled off the shocking defeat by appearing to convince the large number of voters who remained undecided until they went to the polls.

McConnell and the rest of the liberal Republican hierarchy are joining their Democrat buds in celebrating. They wanted Moore to lose. He is a conservative and the Republican hierarchy hates conservatives. They would rather lose to the Democrats than add another conservative to their fold.

I still believe the Republican hierarchy joined with their Democrat BFFs in slandering Moore. Why not? That same tactic worked to get rid of Herman Cain back in 2012. Slander also helped defeat Ted Cruz in last year’s presidential race. It’s a very effective tactic. A great way to deny the voters of options beyond their bland, toe-the-party-line, handpicked, liberal candidates.

Republicans are almost guaranteed to lose their majorities in both houses of congress. And it’s possible that this election may reflect unfavorably on Trump since he belatedly came out in support of Moore. Perhaps Trump is losing his luster. That does not bode well for a Republican president in 2020. Not that Trump or the party hierarchy cares. When the Democrats take ovet, the party will no longer have to pretend they wanted to keep their promises to the voters. They will have a convenient excuse for not getting things done.
