A former aide to President Trump admitted in an interview published Friday to fabricating the story about New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) being sent to pick up McDonald’s for then-candidate Trump.
The former aide, Sam Nunberg, told Politico that he made up the story to embarrass Christie.
“The sad reality is that it was believable,” Nunberg said.
The fast-food story was first reported by the New Yorker’s Ryan Lizza, who wrote that a member of the Trump campaign reportedly sent a Snapchat video to a friend of Christie “fetching Trump’s McDonald’s order,” an account Christie’s office denied.
