The Topps NOW limited-edition baseball trading card featuring Anthony Fauci shattered an all-time sales record run for the company in selling 51,512 cards in the span of just 24 hours, according to Topps.

“Weā€™re excited by the popularity of Dr. Fauciā€™s Topps NOW card,” Topps communications manager Emily Klass told USA Today. “Topps prides itself on capturing the unique moments of the MLB season, one baseball card at a time, and Dr. Fauciā€™s inclusion in this yearā€™s Topps NOW cards is just one way in which we are highlighting the uniqueness of the 2020 season.”

The card featured Fauci’s first pitch on Major League Baseball’s opening night in Washington on July 23.

Fauci, 79, a key member of the White House coronavirus task force and the government’s top infectious disease expert, was given the honor of throwing out the first pitch for the league’s abbreviated season.

The pitch didn’t reach home plate and wasn’t thrown in a straight line, either.

A New York Times report later revealed Fauci had practiced from a distance of 40 feet at a local high school field instead of the requisite 60 feet, 6 inches that marks the distance from the rubber to home plate.

I guess Trump will want his own baseball card now. He was so jealous of Dr. Fauci throwing out the first pitch at the Nationals game that he invited himself to throw out the first pitch at a Yankees game.

Trump is now jealous of Dr. Fauci’s approval rating as to the pandemic. Like a little kid, he’s pouting and whining — why do people liken Dr. Fauci more than him? Well, I can tell him why. During this pandemic, Dr. Fauci has given the benefit of his decades of experience and expertise in infectious diseases to provide sound advice and guidance regarding this virus. Meanwhile, Trump has lied, promoted conspiracy theories, pushed for a drug that may not be effective against COVID and could actually be harmful, blamed the virus on China, the Democrats and an assortment of other real or imaginary enemies, complained and whined, while doing absolutely nothing to provide support, equipment and supplies for hospitals on the front line or anything even remotely considered leadership to a nation in crisis. To him this pandemic has been something he can milk for personal gain and, he thought, a sure path to re-election. He doesn’t care about the health and well being of the average American and potential voters. All he cares about is himself. Voters have noticed and that might explain why voting for Biden is now so tempting to them.

As for how Dr. Fauci pitched — so what? The man is 79 years old and has no baseball experience. I wonder if those laughing at and pointing fingers at Dr. Fauci’s pitching could do any better.
