FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn is asymptomatic and tested negative for the virus on Friday, one senior administration official said.

FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn will self-quarantine for 14 days after exposure to White House spokesperson Katie Miller, who tested positive for Covid-19 on Friday, three administration officials said.

The White House is conducting contact tracing and making a case-by-case determination on who else should self-isolate based on exposure to Miller. Hahn is asymptomatic and tested negative for the virus on Friday, two senior administration officials said.

Miller, a top spokesperson for Vice President Mike Pence, was in White House coronavirus task force meetings with Hahn and other senior administration health officials. She is married to White House senior adviser Stephen Miller, who writes the majority of Trump’s speeches and is in constant proximity to President Donald Trump and White House advisers Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump.

Several health officials told POLITICO that Friday’s developments are a reminder that the nation’s coronavirus pandemic is still raging and is poised to affect the highest levels of government.

“In the span of hours, the coronavirus task force was likely exposed, the vice president was definitely exposed, and a top health official can’t come into the office,” one senior administration official said. “It’s a textbook case of why we can’t rush to re-open.”
