Ghislaine Maxwell accused of recruiting girls for sex
MANCHESTER, N.H. — A woman linked to disgraced billionaire Jeffrey Epstein was arrested Thursday morning in New Hampshire, investigators said.
Ghislaine Maxwell, 58, was arrested in Bradford, the FBI said. According to ABC News, she was taken into custody without incident about 8:30 a.m.
She is expected to appear in federal court Thursday afternoon in the Granite State.
Epstein, 66, died in his jail cell in August 2019, just over a month after his arrest on sex trafficking charges. The convicted sex offender’s death was ruled a suicide, though his lawyers and others disputed that ruling.
Maxwell was a longtime companion of Epstein. She was accused by many women of recruiting them to give Epstein massages, during which they were pressured into sex.
According to the first count in the indictment, Maxwell is accused of assisting in Epstein’s sexual abuse of underage girls, in part by helping Epstein recruit them and then participating in multiple group sexual encounters with the girls.
Investigators said in court paperwork that the victims were as young as 14 years old when they were groomed and abused by Maxwell and Epstein.
Maxwell is also charged with enticing and transporting the girls to engage in illegal sex acts, including taking an underage girl from Florida to New York to have sex with Epstein.
