Fox News and Dominion Voting Systems reached a settlement in their $1.6 billion defamation suit on Tuesday.
WILMINGTON, Del. — Fox News agreed to pay $787.5 million to Dominion Voting Systems to settle a defamation lawsuit over false elections claims, Dominion’s lawyers said Tuesday.
The voting machine company accused the conservative network of deliberately spreading bogus conspiracy theories about its products after the 2020 election in a bid to win back viewers. Dominion’s lawsuit had asked for $1.6 billion in damages before the two sides reached a last-minute settlement after a jury had been selected and as the trial was about to begin.

Three quarters of a billion dollars of shareholder money, all so they could spread Trump’s insane lies.
Good job Tucker, Sean, Laura, Maria, and most of all, Rupert.
Big congrats. https://t.co/onKnBi1UoI

Tapper while reading a statement from Fox: The settlement reflects— I’m sorry, this is going to be difficult to say with a straight face.. this settlement reflects Fox’s continued commitment to the highest journalistic standards pic.twitter.com/vjUqf08RlI

Dominion just got walk-away money 7x their worth. Not taking the money would have been business malpractice. They played this well.

Smartmatic next. Shareholder derivative lawsuits after that.

Romney on Fox settlement with Dominion:
“Clearly you don’t agree to pay someone three quarters of a billion dollars unless you think there’s a real risk you’re going to lose.”
— Igor Bobic (@igorbobic) April 18, 2023
You do not agree to pay $787 million when you're confident you're going to win at trial *or* on appeal.
Fox was cooked, even under New York Times v. Sullivan.
This is a degree of accountability for one of the worst and most consequential media scandals of my lifetime. https://t.co/6WK7bighnZ
— David French (@DavidAFrench) April 18, 2023One key aspect of the settlement–Fox's defenders have nothing left. They can't make the free speech argument any longer. They're left with nothing but the very grim facts. Fox lied. And lied. And lied. And now Fox has to pay.
— David French (@DavidAFrench) April 18, 2023The settlement represents justice for Dominion, but by no means does it cleanse Fox of its corruption.
Liars must be fired. Viewers must be informed. The company must apologize. And then it needs to hire new, honest producers and hosts.
Until then, it's still corrupt.

Smartmatic remains committed to clearing its name, recouping the significant damage done to the company, and holding Fox accountable for undermining democracy.” 2/2

Come on @HowardKurtz, the objection wasn’t that Fox “reported” on false claims.
I did like the bit about being one of the most heavily covered media stories in America on a network that hadn’t covered it. pic.twitter.com/XVyRW0LmSn— Jonah Goldberg (@JonahDispatch) April 18, 2023

CNN Senior Legal Analyst @eliehonig explains the significance of the Dominion-Fox settlement: It’s worth “10 times the value of Dominion as an entire company.” pic.twitter.com/s3FXWJI8nH

Some people have expressed disappointment over this settlement. But one thing they may not realize is that Dominion still has legal actions against Sidney Powell, Rudy Giuliani and Mike Lindell. Plus there is a separate similar suit brought by Smartmatic which was also smeared by Fox and others. So Fox and the other liars are not out of the woods yet. Certain people are going to pay dearly for spreading lies and ruining Dominion and Smartmatic.
