IMMEDIATELY After the Twin Towers Fell on 9/11, Trump Bragged that His Building was Now the Tallest Building in Manhattan

This is truly incredible. As the entire country yesterday reflected on 9/11, it’s worth remembering what Donald Trump said when he was interviewed by a local TV station on literally September 11, 2001, as the emergency response to the attack on the twin towers was still ongoing:

Rough transcript follows:

Interviewer: You have one of the landmark buildings down in the financial district, 40 Wall Street. Did you have any damage, or… what’s happened down there?

Trump: Well, it was an amazing phone call. Actually, 40 Wall Street was the second tallest building in downtown Manhattan, actually it was the tallest, and then when the World Trade Center was built, it became known as the second tallest, and now it’s the tallest.

During the course of this campaign, Trump has said many things about 9/11 that are either highly unlikely or are provably false. First of all, he said that he was able to see people jumping from the World Trade Centers from his offices in Trump tower. Given that Trump Tower is about four miles away, this claim is absolutely not believable. He also has claimed that he knew hundreds of people who died on 9/11, but has been unable or unwilling to name one, even though this is exactly the sort of thing Trump would brag about if it were true.

But all of this takes a backseat to Trump’s actual behavior on 9/11. If you want the most convincing proof that Trump does not give a crap about anyone not named Donald Trump, look no further than what he said as the rubble was still smoldering and the entire city of New York was in shock: HEY LOOK YOU GUYS MY TOWER IS TALLEST AGAIN!
