Is it any wonder that the nation is on the precipice of a fiscal crisis, every single year? Perhaps it is because her senators cannot do simple arithmetic. Take for example Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK | C Liberty Score®) and his support for John Kasich for the presidency yesterday. This support came the day after Kasich was mathematically eliminated from the nomination.
To recap, John Kasich currently has 146 delegates. 1237 delegates are needed for the nomination. Contests have been held in a number of territories and states that have awarded 1463 delegates. There are 2473 delegates all together.
This support came the day after Kasich was mathematically eliminated from the nomination.
Since the senior senator from Oklahoma is apparently incapable of doing so, let’s do the math for him.
2473 – 1463 = 1009 delegates left.
146 + 1009 = 1154 delegates.
1154 < 1237 delegates.
John Kasich cannot amass enough delegates to become the nominee of the Republican Party on the first ballot in Cleveland. It is that simple.
Maybe that’s why senators like Inhofe see nothing wrong with passing increases in spending, less than inflation, and few real spending cuts. They can’t do simple math.
