White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow confirmed on Sunday that the Trump administration is “looking at” purchasing Greenland following reports of its interest last week.

“Denmark owns Greenland. Denmark is an ally. Greenland is a strategic place. They’ve got a lot of valuable minerals,” Kudlow told guest host Dana Perino on “Fox News Sunday.”

“The president, who knows a thing or two about buying real estate, wants to take a look,” he added.

The Wall Street Journal reported last Thursday that President Trump was privately asking aides about the possibility of the U.S. purchasing the Danish territory, which is the largest island in the world and home to some 56,000 people.

The report generated both intense discussion and more facetious responses, with Greenland’s foreign minister, Ane Lone Bagger, responding that “we are open for business, but we’re not for sale, and Danish MP Aaja Chemnitz Larsen, of the Inuit Ataqatigiit party, saying that “my immediate thought is ‘No, thank you.’”
