Lindsey Graham has now formally challenged a subpoena issued to him out of Georgia concerning the 2020 election.

The federal court lawsuit seeks to “quash the state court proceedings seeking to compel his appearance.”

What happened: Attorneys for Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) have formally asked a federal court to quash a subpoena demanding his testimony before a grand jury in Georgia.

The filing asks Fulton County, Ga., District Attorney Fani Willis, whose office launched the investigation into Trump officials in Georgia following the 2020 election, to respond to their motion within three days and “quash the state court proceedings seeking to compel his appearance.”

Here’s a section of the filing, first reported by Fox News.

– “[Willis’] attempts to force Senator Graham to travel to Georgia for seven weeks during the middle of the Senate session is a gross overreach, especially given the immunity and privilege provided by the Speech or Debate Clause, and sovereign immunity.”
