“How did this dog eat? How did it make five winters in Massachusetts?” a Needham Animal Control officer said.

A missing dog was reunited with its owner on Tuesday after spending five years on the streets in Massachusetts.

The dog, Bay, a Basenji, slipped out of a dog sitter’s house in Framingham, Mass., in 2016. Though she’d been sited 10 miles away last year, animal control was unable to catch her.

Then, this month, volunteers for Missing Dogs Massachusetts were able to lay out some food and set a trap for the pup after a woman called to say she had noticed her wandering near her home and had been leaving out food for her.

……..

After a brief check-up at Highland Animal Hospital in Needham, Mass., where Bay was also microchipped, she was released to her ecstatic owner, in a reunion five years in the making.
