Kevin McCarthy isn’t a fan of Donald Trump’s threat that Republican voters sit out the 2022 or 2024 elections.
“People should participate in their elections,” he said at a press conference.

McCarthy’s response: The GOP leader offered a gentle brushback, clearly trying to not cross Trump but also offering a counter message. “People should participate in their elections,” he said, adding that he believes people should vote to “change the direction” of the country.
If you need reminding: The ex-president’s remarks had major consequences for Republicans last cycle. *Cough, cough, GEORGIA.* Some in the party believe they would’ve retained control of the Senate if Trump had not depressed the vote with repeated baseless claims of widespread voter fraud and a rigged election.
