Merry Christmas

“And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!’” Luke 2:13-14 (ESV)

There is so much we do not know about the angels’ sound and song. But we know they celebrated and it was cause for joy and peace. We know they appeared first to shepherds, a class of people so low that their testimony was not even allowed in courts. We know those shepherds were told the joy was for all the people. We know too what they found — a baby in a manger wrapped in cloths. This was the king of kings, the Prince of Peace, the Everlasting Father on whose shoulders the government would rest.

….

Commercialism and secularism make this a time of year of purchase and lights and elves on shelves when what it really is about is a baby who came to give great joy for all the people. We do not know how the angels sounded except we know they sounded filled with joy. So should we all be this Christmas season. For unto us a child is born who can take up your burdens and fill you with peace. Merry Christmas.

Yes, a Merry Christmas to all. Even as we look forward to the soon return of our Blessed King and Redeemer. It is a nice reminder that our Savior came for one reason, and although that reason was not seen at the time of His birth, He knew. when the time was right He set his purposes towards the Cross. For had He not given all there, the birth would have no meaning at all. We had a wonderful service today that ended with communion. It was special.

I read Luke 2 to my grandchildren tonight, going into a little history as I did. They enjoyed it, knew the OT prophecies very well. They are ages 3-7, studying Hebrew as their 3rd language. I envy them, their parents more well-versed in Scripture than my own. Good to have my three children home and all but one grandchild with us. We talked with her Wednesday.

On a sad note, a dear friend that the Lord has placed in our path since we returned “home” to the US to live, is dying. She was not a believer when we first met her, about 3 years ago. She’s come a long way since then. Praying that she has saving faith before she crosses over into eternity. Please pray for Dianne. She had a liver transplant 16 years ago, which the doctors said is a very good lease on life, considering that when she entered the hospital back then, they said she did not qualify and would not leave the hospital alive. God spared her life then. She was not a believer then, so I am praying that it is settled now. We had a Bible study together for several months.

Pray for righteousness to be restored and for the peace of Jerusalem
