U.S. troops serving overseas for Thanksgiving will receive almost 100,000 pounds turkey this year.
The Department of Defense provides holiday meals each year to members of the military serving abroad and this year, the Pentagon is planning to provide service members in Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, and Jordan 98,820 pounds of turkey, 10,173 pounds of stuffing mix, 6,588 pounds of marshmallows, and 918 gallons of eggnog, CNN reported.
Brig. Gen. William Graham told C-SPAN’s “Washington Journal” on Thursday that his “favorite part” of the military’s tradition for Thanksgiving is serving Thanksgiving meals.
“Obviously being away from my family, is one of our greatest challenges,” he said. “What the Army has done a great job of is building resilient families.”
Graham is stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan, and has been deployed for six Thanksgivings.
