CONCORD, N.H. — Vice President Mike Pence strongly denied that he would have considered invoking the 25th Amendment to remove the president, calling the thought appalling.

A soon-to-be-published book reportedly claims White House aides were certain Pence would sign a letter to remove President Donald Trump from office if a majority of the Cabinet wanted to. The senior aides claimed they put together a back-of-the-envelope list of Cabinet secretaries who were open to the idea of removing Trump because of mental incapacity, according to pages obtained by HuffPost.

Using the pen name “Anonymous”, the author wrote that aides thought Pence was prepared to sign a letter invoking the 25th Amendment, allowing the president to be removed from office if he is deemed unfit to discharge the duties of his office.

Pence said he has never heard any discussion about the 25th amendment in the White House.

“You know when those rumors came out a few years ago, I dismissed them then,” he said, adding: “If there is someone who is in our administration or who has served in our administration [who] doesn’t support this president, doesn’t support his agenda, he should resign.”

Huffington Post did not independently confirm Pence’s position but reported the Department of Justice has warned the employee he or she may not legally be allowed to disclose their work as an employee of the executive branch.
