San Antonio police officer killed in his car, police chief compares shooting to Dallas

San Antonio police detective Benjamin Marconi was shot and killed Sunday by a unknown assailant who pulled up behind him, got out and shot him twice. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus compared the shooting to police shootings in Dallas and Baton Rouge earlier this year. From KENS5 in San Antonio:

McManus said Marconi pulled over a vehicle outside of the Public Safety Headquarters. While he was inside his vehicle writing a ticket, a black vehicle pulled up behind him.

The driver of that vehicle got out, walked up to Marconi’s driver-side window and shot him in the head, McManus said.

Then the suspect reached into the window and shot Marconi a second time, he said.

After the shooting the suspect got back in his car and drove away. Police have an image of the vehicle which they posted on their Facebook page along with a description of the suspect:

This is the vehicle seen fleeing headquarters after the shooting. The suspect is described as a black male wearing a hoodie, baggy pants, and possible facial hair. Approximately 5’7. Please call Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP with any info.

Police Chief McManus compared this incident to the shooting of police officers in Dallas and Baton Rouge saying, “This is everyone’s worst nightmare, everyone’s worst nightmare. The officers on the department. The family. People who support the police officers.” He continued, “It’s everyone’s worst nightmare. You never want to see anything like this happen. Unfortunately, like Dallas like Baton Rouge, it’s happened here.”
