WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) today visited with Houston’s space industry leaders from Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership (BAHEP) and National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

Sen. Cruz first met with BAHEP members in a roundtable discussion, followed by a meeting with NASA officials and a tour of NASA’s Johnson Space Center (JSC).

“It was great to have the opportunity today to speak with BAHEP President Bob Mitchell, Johnson Space Center Director Dr. Ellen Ochoa, and leaders within the space industry to discuss ways to work together to ensure Texas remains a leader in space exploration,” Sen. Cruz said.

“The ingenuity that made Houston a leader in space exploration is certainly alive and well. I look forward to continuing to work with Dr. Ochoa and the leaders at the Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership as we reassert the priorities of Texas and our space community.”

As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Space, Science, and Competitiveness, Sen. Cruz has led efforts in the Senate to ensure that America remains a world leader of space exploration throughout the 21st century through committee hearings such as “U.S. Human Exploration Goals and Commercials Space Competitiveness,” “Examining the President’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2016 Budget Request for NASA,” and most recently, “NASA at a Crossroads: Reasserting American Leadership in Space Exploration.”

Sen. Cruz also championed the U.S. Commercial Space Launch Competitiveness Act, which was signed into law by President Obama last year. The bill provides the framework in which the State of Texas and the entire nation can confidently continue reshaping the future of human space exploration.
