Madison— Ted Cruz waded into Wisconsin’s Democratic bastion Wednesday with an event featuring his wife and mother and a former rival as he seeks to catch up in delegates with real estate mogul Donald Trump in his bid for the GOP presidential nomination.
After a scuffle that started last week over Cruz and Trump’s wives, Cruz cast all issues as ones that affect women and talked about his relationships with the women in his life.
“The Democrats love to pigeonhole women,” the senator from Texas said. “Listen, I have news for the Democrat Party. Women are not a special interest. Women are a majority of the United States of America and every issue is a women’s issue.”
Cruz held a roundtable discussion at the Sheraton Hotel in the liberal stronghold of Madison. Joining him on stage were his mother Eleanor, his wife Heidi and Hewlett-Packard executive Carly Fiorina, who ended her presidential race last month.
