The good, the bad, and the ugly of Trump’s VP list

Here is a breakdown (in alphabetical order) of the names most commonly being speculated as finalists on Donald Trump’s running mate list, should Republican Party delegates not succeed in their revolt against his nomination.

Chris Christie

THE GOOD— Chris has won two statewide elections for governor in New Jersey, which no Republican presidential candidate has won since 1988. In fact, only once since then has the GOP presidential nominee even exceeded 45% of the popular vote there. He’s the only name on the list that gives Trump any shot to flip a meaningful state in the Electoral College.

THE BAD—Four years ago he was being positioned by the GOP establishment to be their 2016 champion should Mitt Romney lose. But then he gave a lackluster keynote address at the 2012 convention, got himself mired in the Bridgegate scandal, and now finds himself with only a 26% approval rating in his own state.

THE UGLY—He’s become perhaps the worst of Trump’s foot-stools, humiliating himself on so many occasions he’s his own online meme. Including speculation he’s become a “manservant” who makes McDonalds runs for The Donald.

Michael Flynn

THE GOOD—Flynn is a three-star general and a decorated 33-year military veteran. His record includes a two-year stint as the director of the Defense Intelligence Agency from 2012-2014, before he was removed from his post by the Obama Administration over irreconcilable differences. Flynn has since become a vocal critic of both President Obama and Hillary Clinton after previously working with/for them.

THE BAD—He’s a lifelong Democrat, and aired his liberal views on This Week on Sunday. That includes taking a decidedly pro-infanticide position very similar to the views Trump himself expressed publicly for decades. Until about five minutes before he decided to run for the GOP nomination, of course, when every RINO suddenly becomes pro-life. It’s a Christmas miracle, every four years.

THE UGLY—If a liberal Republican presidential nominee from New York selecting as a running mate a disgruntled former general, who once worked for his Democrat opponent, sounds familiar to you, it’s because it should. It’s the exact plot of the current season of the popular television show House of Cards. I’m sure it’s a coincidence.

Newt Gingrich

….

Mike Pence

….

And finally, don’t forget that Trump’s entire campaign is structured and messaged like the reality TV that made him a pop culture icon. So don’t be surprised if, in true reality TV fashion, Trump comes forth with an unexpected wildcard. If for no other reason than the shock value alone.
