Former “NBC Nightly News” anchor Tom Brokaw withdrew as commencement speaker for undergraduate students at Sacred Heart University following allegations from two women of sexual misconduct, according to a report.

The university, based in Fairfield, Conn., notified students of the change Friday, according to WTNH . Linda McMahon, administrator of the Small Business Administration, will instead address graduates at the commencement ceremonies next month.

“Given events in the news, Mr. Brokaw did not want to distract from the intended and most important focus of the day — our graduating students and their families,” Sacred Heart University President John Petillo said in a letter to students, according to WTNH.

……

Linda Vester, a former correspondent for NBC News, accused Brokaw of making unwanted sexual advances toward her. Vester claims Brokaw showed up at her hotel room uninvited during one instance and tried to forcibly kiss her in the 1990s.

A second woman speaking anonymously to the Washington Post said Brokaw took her hands and pressed them under his jacket and onto his chest. He then allegedly suggested she visit his office to talk about her job search. The woman, a production assistant at the time, said his actions implied he wanted to do more than talk about her career.
