Donald Trump doesn’t believe in American exceptionalism, and even if he did, he wouldn’t say it publicly.
“I don’t like the term, I’ll be honest with you,” Trump said in an interview obtained by Mother Jones Tuesday. He went on to sarcastically add “[other countries] have been eating our lunch for the last twenty years, but we’re more exceptional. I don’t like the term.”
“I’d like to make us exceptional, and we’ll talk later,” Trump continued. “Because I think your’e insulting the world.”
Interestingly enough, Trump attacked President Obama in the interview for using the term. This is odd because conservatives have long criticized Obama for not believing in American exceptionalism, but rather apologizing to the world on behalf of the U.S.
