President Trump on Tuesday called for a government shutdown at the end of September in order to kill the legislative filibuster in the Senate so he can pass more of his priorities.

“The reason for the plan negotiated between the Republicans and Democrats is that we need 60 votes in the Senate which are not there!” Trump tweeted. “We either elect more Republican Senators in 2018 or change the rules now to 51%. Our country needs a good ‘shutdown’ in September to fix mess!”

Trump agreed to a deal between congressional Democrats and Republicans over the weekend to avoid a partial government shutdown that would start early Saturday morning with no spending bill. The agreement, which doesn’t fund many of Trump’s priorities, would keep the government open until the end of the fiscal year on Sept. 30.
