There was reportedly no working smoke alarm in the apartment in Trump Tower in New York where a fire started over the weekend, killing one person.

A New York City Fire Department source familiar with the investigation told CNN that firefighters were made aware of the fire through a buildingwide alarm system.

The source said the apartment, located on the 50th floor of Trump Tower, did not have a working smoke alarm, so there was not an alarm coming from the unit when firefighters got to the scene.

The upper floors of the building also do not have fire sprinklers, Fire Commissioner Daniel Nigro said.

One man was killed after the fire broke out at Trump Tower on Saturday.
