The president has bragged about the strength of the economy amid escalating scrutiny by Congress.
President Donald Trump warned Thursday morning that U.S. financial markets “would crash” if congressional Democrats vote to impeach him at the conclusion of the official inquiry they announced earlier this week.
“If they actually did this the markets would crash. Do you think it was luck that got us to the best Stock Market and Economy in our history. It wasn’t!” Trump wrote on Twitter.
The president’s message included a Wednesday post by the Fox Business Network’s Maria Bartiromo, one of his favorite cable news personalities, who tweeted the headline: “Stocks hit session lows after Pelosi calls for impeachment inquiry.”
Trump attacked Democratic lawmakers’ probe again in a tweet 10 minutes later, describing it as “THE GREATEST SCAM IN THE HISTORY OF AMERICAN POLITICS!”
And in another all-caps broadside, he charged that “THE DEMOCRATS ARE TRYING TO DESTROY THE REPUBLICAN PARTY AND ALL THAT IT STANDS FOR,” urging fellow members of the GOP to “STICK TOGETHER, PLAY THEIR GAME, AND FIGHT HARD” because “OUR COUNTRY IS AT STAKE!”
