Tunisia suspends 'Wonder Woman' due to Israeli star Gal Gadot

The hit movie “Wonder Woman” was suspended in Tunisia before a scheduled preview screening on Wednesday because star Gal Gadot is Israeli.

Labeling Gadot a “champion Zionist,” the Tunisian Association of Young Lawyers filed a lawsuit on Monday to get the film banned over her citizenship and her two years of mandatory service in the Israeli military. Variety reported that a Tunisian courthouse decided to suspend the film while examining the lawsuit.

Lebanon banned the movie in May and the Jerusalem Post reported that Jordan’s Communications Commission is currently reviewing whether to ban it as well. The film was also pulled from a movie festival in Algeria on Sunday, but organizers said it was done so over “administrative issues linked to exhibition rights,” rather than Gadot’s citizenship.

The film is still scheduled to open in Morocco, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.
